The journey began with a simple spark. I was 30 years old and had no memory of my paternal grandfather. I asked my father a series of questions about his father. The questions were all poised in the past tense. My father said to me " girl why are you talking about my father as if he is dead"? I responded, "isn't he". This interaction piqued my curiosity and the genealogy journey began.
I have been researching family history for over 35 years and have given numerous presentations on tracing and preserving one’s heritage. In addition to providing consultation and research services for private clients, I have also authored and published family history books and instructional guides.
The Genealogy Doula evolved from this wealth of experience. Many are familiar with the term "birth doula", a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical and informational support to mothers before, during and after childbirth. A Genealogy doula is a trained professional who provides services including coaching, consultations, and support during the research and publishing journey.
